Categories

Categories are the top-most level of the taxonomy, that are used to publish structured content to the Direct-To-Consumer Apps or Syndication Feeds.

Channels

Titles are a vital means of organizing video content in the appropriate manner for publishing. Metadata is added at this level to push information to Direct-To-Consumer Apps and Syndication Feeds.

  • Movie
A Movie Title is used within the taxonomy to differentiate between feature films and episodic content.

  • Series
A Series title is used within the taxonomy to structure episodic content within a central series title.

  • Specials
A Specials title is used within the taxonomy to place miscellaneous content organized into a single or multiple playlists.

Playlists

Playlists are used within the taxonomy to organize video content to be placed into a title. These can also be created automatically through the use of Videos.

Videos

Videos are the base-level part of the taxonomy structure.
Metadata is added at this level to push information to Direct-To-Consumer Apps and Syndication Feeds.

FAST-Style Channels

Channels in DotstudioPro can also be used to simulate FAST-style, auto-starting linear experiences. By assigning a Playlist to a Channel, you can create a continuously looping playback environment that begins automatically when a viewer opens the Channel.

This setup allows you to organize and present genre-based or thematic content as always-on channels across Web, Mobile, and CTV platforms.

  • Playlist Assignment
A Playlist containing your selected films or TV episodes is created and assigned directly to the Channel. The Channel will automatically play through this content in order and loop indefinitely.

  • Channel Syncing
Once configured, the Channel is added to a Rail or Category within your DSP CMS, allowing it to appear in your app’s content structure.

  • Platform Sync
Rails or Categories containing the Channel can be synced to any supported platforms, including Web, Mobile, and CTV apps (Direct to consumer apps)

Viewer Experience

When a user interacts with your app, a FAST-Style Channel functions as follows:

  • The user selects a Channel displayed within a synced Rail or Category.

  • The Channel detail page loads.

  • Playback begins automatically.

  • The assigned Playlist loops without interruption until the viewer exits.

This enables you to present genre collections (e.g., Sci-Fi, Horror, Comedy) as continuous, auto-starting channels.
