Some platforms automate their ingest, programming, and editorial promotions. They do so using tags within the metadata of the files they receive. Tags can be used by platform search engines to surface your content and make it more discoverable.
In dotstudioPRO, tags can be added and managed for both videos and channels using the tags field.
Requirements:
Each video and channel created in dotstudioPRO should include tags from the below tables. If a tag is listed as required, it means the platform will not properly program the content without a given tag. User provided tags are welcome in addition to the below.
Table | Required/Optional | Number of Tags to Include |
Xumo Tags | required | 2-3 |
Roku Tags | required | 2-3 |
Content Tags | optional | 3-5 |
Holiday Tags | optional | 1-2 if applicable |
Best Practices:
Nearly anything can be used as a tag: actor's names, genres, tropes, programming/technical notes. the best practices are:
- simple terminology is best - think search terms
- use a combination of general (horror) and specific (zombie) terms
- avoid special characters and spaces
- tags should be honest, misleading tags will cause users to click away quickly
Xumo Tags:
Each video and channel should use 2-5 of the below tags. Xumo requires at least one of these tags to program content. These tags are not required for episodic content, but it is useful to include them since it increases discoverability.
- the abbreviation "bc" is for "black cinema"
